Grace Congregational United Church of Christ is seeking a Director for Christian Education. This person will coordinate our education and faith formation activities and programs to engage our children and youth and help grow their faith. Our education and faith formation programming reflects the values of our wider congregation: we are a community of intentional welcome, focused on serving one another and the world. We strive for children and youth to be fully part of our congregational family, not separated from it. This position reports to our Pastor, and will work closely with our Christian Education Board and other staff members.
Major tasks and responsibilities:
- Create, implement, and coordinate Sunday morning children’s activities
- Work closely with our Pastor, the Board of Christian Education, and our High School Youth Leader to implement cohesive faith formation for all ages
- Recruit, train, and manage volunteers for activities and programs
- Build relationship with church families and encourage relationships between families
- Oversee communications to families and maintain up-to-date information on our website, church newsletter, Facebook page, etc
- Plan hands-on service events for children to engage in our wider community
- Work closely with our Pastor to plan and teach Confirmation class (Wednesday evenings)
- Plan and coordinate annual events such as the Christmas Pageant, spring Kids’ Musical, summer Vacation Bible School, etc
- Ensure compliance with the church’s Safe Sanctuary policies
- Encourage outreach to children/families not currently active in our ministry
- Build relationships in the wider community to grow our program
- Express a sense of personal faith that encourages the faith of others
- Embody our congregation’s mission and values, including welcome and inclusion of all people
Qualifications
- Ability to work cooperatively with diverse groups of people
- Excellent organizational and communication skills
- Be a team player, working with other church staff and volunteers
- Creativity for meeting the changing needs of the congregation
- A commitment to serving the church and the wider community
- College degree or equivalent experience in education and/or theology required (and/or a willingness to receive education and training through the Damascus Project or other programs)
- Comfort and knowledge with technology and communication (email, Facebook, etc)
Hours, Salary, and Benefits
- Average of 20 hours a week
- $20,000-25,000/year salary, depending on experience and qualifications
- Benefits in accordance with church policy and employee manual
